The female condom flopped when it was launched some 20 years ago, but it never disappeared entirely and now the government of Uganda embarked on a massive campaign to promote it. I believe that the female condom is 100% safe; its demand in urban areas is still low as compared to the rural areas. The demand is high along semi urban place and busy border town, where young women engage in sex work.
Young women have confessed; “I feel confident and in control while using it”. Working with young people, through our youth clubs, we have observed gradually change on the demand side, the uptake of female condoms especially at border areas is high particularly in Busia. Each quarter we distribute 4000 female condoms to clubs.
