DSW signed new grants with four youth led civil society organisations at our Mombasa office on Tuesday, 2nd June 2020.
The four organisations, Dream Achievers Youth Organization, Pwani Youth Network, SIKOM peace Network and Pokot Youth Bunge Forum, will share the funding, dubbed Change Maker Advocacy Grant, worth 70,000 USD*.
Dream Achievers Youth Organization, Pwani Youth Network, SIKOM peace Network and Pokot Youth Bunge Forum will apply the Change Maker Advocacy Grant to support the advocacy work of our two subgrantees – Safe Community Youth Initiative (Kilifi County) and Declares Inspirational group (West Pokot County).
The grants were awarded as part of Strengthening Local Advocacy Leadership in East Africa (SLALE), a project that aims to enable youth-focused civil society organisations (CSOs) in Kenya and Tanzania to implement effective and coordinated family planning and reproductive health advocacy.
Speaking about the importance of having young people at the frontlines of conversations on family planning and reproductive health in Kenya, SLALE project coordinator Sammy Chale said that young people have been left out in discussions that affect their lives and particularly the issues around sexual reproductive health and rights.
“DSW, through this program builds the capacity of these organizations by building their organizational systems (leadership and policy framework) as well as increase advocacy capacity to enable them to undertake sexual reproductive health and rights advocacy work in their respective counties in an efficient, effective and well-coordinated manner“, said Chale.
Present at the signing were SLALE project coordinator Sammy Chale (on behalf of DSW Kenya Country Director, Ms. Evelyn Samba), Seif Jira for Dream Achievers Youth Organization, and Alfred Sigo for Pwani Youth Network. SIKOM peace Network and Pokot Youth Bunge Forum from West Pokot signed online due to travel restrictions due to the COVID–19 pandemic.
