With almost 1000 entries received for DSW’s #BeTheChange2015 photo story contest, we have had an extremely difficult time in selecting an overall winner. But we have found one! The winner is (drumroll please)….

The aim of the contest was to encourage people from all over the world to share with us the positive impacts that they have witnessed in their lives, communities, and countries under the umbrella of global development. Now that the Millennium Development Goals have been replaced with a new development agenda, we have a new opportunity to follow on from the successes of the MDGs and finally eradicate the root causes of poverty once and for all.
But this will only work if we make the change ourselves and push for a better future. This was the real goal of the #BeTheChange2015 photo story contest – a sentiment best captured by @KiberaStories winning photo and story which shows us how we are all our own agents of change. We have the power to shape our own destiny and that of the world. And, just like the little boy attending an empty school so he doesn’t miss out on his studies, we all have to have faith in our own potential. If we can achieve this, then nothing can stop us.
