UnwwwbenanntPresident Yoweri Museveni has advised Uganda to rid its self of high fertility and corruption, if the country is to register meaningful and sustained growth. In his official remarks while launching the new National Development Plan, the president emphasized the need for Uganda citizens to adopt the idea of smaller families. The Presidents statement which is line with similar statements he has echoed in the recent past, are further proof that Ugandan citizens must hid to his call  of appreciating family planning to ensure that the country continues to grow while its citizens continue to ably support their families with the needed social services to compliment the Governments efforts.

In his remarks on human development, The President noted that where as the education and health sectors have been supported, and that poverty levels have now reduced to 19.7%, a lot more would have been achieved if the population needs were not straining the realized economic growth and countries resources.

“If the citizens did not have too many children by now Uganda would be a middle income country.” President Yoweri Museveni.

With the current population almost at 35 million people, Uganda’s demographic indicators among which are high fertility rates of 6.2%, an unmet need for family planning at 34%, a low contraceptive use of only 30%, Uganda will have to work hard to reverse this trend and its effects on her growth, even with Government demonstrated commitment.
