Every year the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports host the National Youth Week to commemorate youth contribution to the nation and discuss issues. This annual event is graced by the president and brings together youth across Tanzania as well as government, youth serving CSOs and private sectors. During this event, His Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete urged youth to actively take part in the development process.

The president underscored the need for the youth to read the draft constitution and take up civic and leadership responsibilities. President Kikwete also instructed the local government authorities to disburse 10% of their annual revenues to the youth and women funds to finance development plans.The local government authorities were reminded to honour this obligation and regularly share to him quarterly status report regarding the youth development funds.

Additionally, President Kikwete used the youth week event to appreciate the work and support of youth empowerment serving organizations by awarding recognition certificates and visited the booths.
