Sabine Weiss and Frank Heinrich

Today we had the first official meeting of our All Party Parliamentary Group on Population and Development (APPG) within the new legislative period. Former and new Members of Parliament came together for a lunch meeting at the German Bundestag in order to thank Sabine Weiss (Christian Democratic Union) for her successful engagement as speaker of the group for the last three years. Due to new responsibilities within her parliamentary party group, Sabine Weiss handed over the reins to her colleague Frank Heinrich. He has been an active and committed member of the APPG within the last years and we are very happy to announce him as the new spokesperson of our APPG.

After the productive discussions with the MPs, we are very confident to start parliamentary initiatives soon. The dialogue among the MPs showed that one of the most significant subjects for the next few months will be the ICPD Beyond 2014 process in connection with the Post-2015-Agenda. In addition, the rebuilding of DSW’s APPG after the elections is also of great importance, since 14 out of 34 members lost their mandate or didn’t run for parliament anymore in the context of the last elections. Thus, DSW and current APPG members are now working together on the recruitment of motivated MPs from all parliamentary groups and different working Bundestag committees.
